To further enhance interaction among students from different research platforms, promote physical and mental well-being, and foster a vibrant campus spirit, the Zhangjiang Advanced Research Institute (Zhangjiang Institute) successfully held the first “Gaoyu Cup” Mixed Team Badminton Tournament at the Zhangjiang Science Park Sports Center. Over 60 student representatives from the Institute’s research centers, the Tsung-Dao Lee Institute, and the School of Medicine participated.
Deputy Party Secretary Jiang Yanyuan, Director of Student Affairs Zhang Liu, Political Instructor Li Liwei, and Academic Supervisor Tian Xiaozhen attended the event. The opening ceremony was hosted by Graduate Union Preparatory Committee Leader Zhou Zhihui.

Before the matches began, Jiang Yanyuan delivered a speech encouraging students to maintain a healthy lifestyle alongside their scientific research. She emphasized embracing challenges with determination and striving for excellence with a healthy body. She also highlighted the importance of sportsmanship, teamwork, and mutual respect.
Zhou Zhihui explained the competition rules and safety instructions. Yu Jie, Secretary-General of the Institute’s Fitness Association, led the warm-up session. Jiang Yanyuan then served the opening shot, igniting energy and excitement on the court.


The tournament followed a mixed team format with six participating teams: “Go Go Go Little Train,” “Golden State Warriors,” “Perfect Match,” “Smash Without Fault,” “Happy Badminton Team,” and “Iron Horse Cooper.”

On the court, players gave it their all, showcasing rapid transitions between offense and defense. Each smash and point gripped the attention of spectators. With teamwork and strategy on display, the atmosphere was electric. Cheers and applause from the sidelines added to the spirited ambiance.
Every serve, jump, and swing demonstrated both the players’ training and tactical thinking.

Every lob and smash tested their technical skill as well as physical and mental endurance.

After each match, players approached the net with smiles and handshakes, showing mutual respect and admiration. Regardless of the outcome, these exchanges left behind warmth and sportsmanship. In that moment, competition gave way to camaraderie and a shared love of sport.

Throughout the competition, participants demonstrated skill, teamwork, and enthusiasm. Amid their busy academic lives, the event brought a valuable mix of sportsmanship and friendship. Going forward, the Institute plans to host more diverse and engaging events, making sports a vital companion on the scientific journey, injecting energy and inspiration into every researcher.
